The 550 error means that you need to login the server in order to send emails.
If you can send email but cannot receive email, and you are receiving an "Error 550: Relaying Prohibited" message, you will need to reconfigure your E-mail Account settings.
Error 550 can occur when any one of the following are true:
- You entered an incorrect SMTP mail server name.
- You entered an incorrect SMTP Account Name and/or password.
- Your ISP does not allow mail relay and you many see the 550 - Mail Relaying Denied error message.
To determine which of the above problems is causing Error 550, follow the steps.
There are three possible causes of Error 550. Follow the procedure beginning with Invalid E-Mail Address to determine the cause of your Error 550 and correct it.
Verify Your SMTP Mail Server Name
- Open ResponseMailer, click "View", then click "E-mail Accounts".
Highlight the account that gives you the 550 error, then double-click the item.
- Under the "Outgoing Server" tab, check the box that says "My server outgoing server requires authentication" and choose "Use same settings as my incoming POP3 mail server".
Note: If your SMTP server requires a different password than that of your POP3 then choose "Log on Using" and enter the login user name and password.
- Click "OK", then close out of the Internet Accounts display.
Note: If you do not know what your SMTP mail server name is, contact your ISP. Now send your E-mail. If you continue to receive Error 550, see Mail Relaying Denied.
Mail Relaying Denied
If you use more than one ISP on the computer that you run PC Access from, you may see the 550 - Mail Relaying Denied error message.
This problem can occur when you enter one ISP's SMTP mail server name in the Incoming Mail (POP3) field on the E-mail Account setup window, but you connect to the Internet using another ISP.
Note: Most ISPs only allow you to send e-mail through their SMTP mail server when you connect to the Internet through their service. In other words, you cannot connect to the Internet through one ISP and send mail through a different ISP's SMTP mail server.
To correct the 550 - Mail Relaying Denied error, connect to the Internet through the same ISP that you specified in the Incoming Mail (POP3) field in the E-mail Accout setup window.
