What is an autoresponder?

An autoresponder is an e-mail system that allows you to automatically
respond to users electronic mails. It is an e-mail program that automatically
replies to an e-mail message with a prewritten response when that e-mail
comes into a specific e-mail or internet address.
A few uses of an auto-responder
- Inform the sender that you have gone on vacation and will not be replying
personally to emails until you return to the office.
- Respond to a newsletter subscription request to verify the opt-in
or subscription cancellation (opt-out).
- Indicate to the sender that a user comment was received.
- Indicate that an online purchase was processed and include an order
confirmation number in the e-mail that is automatically generated and
sent to the purchaser.
- When someone request information from your website, web form, newsletter
or wherever, your autoresponder software will send out a preset reply
instantly.
- Automatically follow up on your customers in order to make them buy
from you again.
- Use as a contact form so visitors/members can easily contact you,
it will send them an email letting them no you will contact them soon.
- Automatically send a “thank you” email to everyone who has
made a purchase from your site.
- Automatically send out series of marketing emails to subscribers,
for example an online course on the subject of your site.
- Personalize all emails so that they look like they were sent by you
personally!
- You can build an opt-in email list that you can broadcast your marketing
offers to any time you want.
- Capture your prospect email address and keeping in contact with all
your prospects means more sales.
- You can use it to up-sell a customer from a free service to a paid
service by reminding the customer of the great additional value of the
enhanced service.
- You can deliver a series of special reports on your high priced services
as a means of building credibility with your customers and prospects.
- You can be pro-active about service, maintaining consistent, personalized
contact, or offering important downloads (spreadsheets, PDF files, programs)
when you're not around to send them.
- Accepts subscriptions and automatically follows up whether you’re

Autoresponder software primarily automates the task sending pre-written
email messages in response incoming emails.
Auto responders are one of the most widely used promotional tools on
the Internet. They're also known as mailbots, automatic email and email
on demand. They were derived from the very popular fax on demand and designed
to automatically respond to any email message received with an automatic
response.
